The Oku Protect Manuka and Kawakawa Blended Tea also contains Rosehips, Elderflower, Elderberries and Licorice, creating a beautifully fragrant tea that combines the best of New Zealand natives with dynamic traditional herbs.
Manuka is New Zealand's traditional bush tea, also used to treat kidney and bladder complaints.
Commonly called the New Zealand Pepper tree, kawakawa is a traditional Maori medicine used for a variety of ailments, from kidney and bowel problems to toothache and swelling.
There is some interesting research going on in New Zealand regarding the properties of Kawakawa, as it contains an abundance and diverse range of active ingredients already used in Western medicine. One of those compounds is pellitorine, known to have a numbing effect, which possibly explains why it was used for pain relief. Pellitorine can also help to reduce inflammation.
Other compounds found in Kawakawa include yangambin (anti-inflammatory in the cardiovascular system), and dopamine (helpful for the digestive system, providing a pathway to soothe gastrointestinal complaints, and also helpful for regulating insulin levels).
Rosehips, Elderflower, Elderberries and Licorice provide sweetness.
The beautiful pack includes 15 pyramid tea bags. The tea bags are compostable, and the tea is free of preservatives, gluten, and GMOs.
