This 38cm (15') Carved Wahaika is a replica of the wahaika club used by pre-European Maori.

Waha-ika means 'mouth of the fish', because of the notched convex side of the weapon.  The human figure carved on the concave side is called a pūkaiora, a war God to guard the warrior during battle.  At the top end of the handle is a whiti, a small head also seen as a guardian.

Wahaika were traditionally made from native hardwoods or whalebone.  This one has been made from a sustainably harvested hardwood called Tulip Wood.  Tulip Wood is lightweight but very strong, and has an attractive reddish brown hue.

Purchase on its own or with a stand. The stand can also be engraved with a gold plaque, making it particularly suitable for special occasions, like 21sts, birthdays, farewells, and corporate or business gift.

If you would like the stand engraved, choose up to 5 words, select the Engraved option, and enter the words in the box provided.  Please note that engraved items cannot be returned, aside from the unlikely event that we get the engraving wrong.  Please allow 3-4 days for engraving to be done.  We can also paua engrave the stand, but the limit is 18 characters, and they must be CAPITALS.
